Why are drops round?

In the world of physics, there is a law that says that matter will always tend to rest on the shape which consumes less energy. Drops are round because, while they are falling, their molecules attract each other with equal strength until they establish a balance of forces as close to zero as they possibly can.

The best shape that a drop can achieve is globular. While the drop is in that shape, gravitational attraction remains as stable as it can among all the molecules of water.
