Teacher, educator, master
Usually taken as synonyms, teachers, educators and masters have big differences among them. A teacher gives his course and then goes home. An educator gives a step forward and cares about the students personal formation. A master has overcome those two teaching proficiencies. He not only gives his course and cares about his pupils, he commit himself to them because he understands that the best way to ensure us a better world is by having better inhabitants in the following generations.
Educating is a very important social responsibility and must be taken accordingly.
A teacher (or lecturer) is a person who gives a course. That is, he fulfils the primary responsibility of giving certain knowledge and generating certain grades for the registries of a given organization. Among colleagues, we know this is the most comfortable position, typical from a professional who finds himself in front of a class by a matter of lack or fate. In a society which is currently fighting for not abandoning moral values, rescuing the vocation of teachers should be a very important goal for the the following years. Training and update courses must be restructured in order to meet this increasing necessity.
Remember youngsters usually trust more their teachers than their parents and you will get aware of the importance of assuming more social responsibility towards students.
We call educators to those who have given a step forward and not only care about their subjects, but also about those who receive them during their class. But an educator is not always ready to face other situations. Appropriate and constant counselling and preparation, therefore, are things to think about in order to improve educators' capability of giving their own subjects. Many times students show up with very difficult (and shocking) cases when they come looking for advice. Our best recommendation is to contact some professionals of other areas for support.
We believe that today an educator should learn about leadership, motivation and psychology. Approaching to some religious community usually helps a lot to learn to give advices in a more transcendental way. Even if you are a non-believer, you should strongly consider religion as an option for moral support.
An educator soon becomes someone appreciated in the organization. His capability and commitment, together with the personal relation he soon develops with his students are a proof he understands the fact any person can learn properly from someone he does not trust. A good educator is prepared to detect learning, performance, communication or behaviour problems in his students without evading the responsibility he has towards this. On the contrary, he is usually seen talking with a student at the end of a class or in his free time about it. We have even heard of some cases in which the participation of the teacher helped to stop the abuse or ill-treatment a student was being victim of.
An educator must be ready for everything. It is part of the job. Period.
If you need to discuss any specific case or situation, feel free to write.
Last, we could say a master is an educator summa cum laude. He has not only got the respect, love and trust of the students. He will soon notice people coming to ask him to educate them or their children.
As romantic as this may sound, a master always leaves a mark in every classroom where he steps and in every soul he touches. He has what it takes: Love for people, love for his job and respect for the subject he has to give.
This is your final goal, colleague.
